K|Lens GmbH receives highly competitive EU SME funding for the further development of its patented light field sensor technology

On 01.07.2020 the project K-IND "A new photonic standard component for 3D sensing" of K|Lens GmbH started with the ambitious goal to establish itself as market leader in Europe for the use of 3D photonics technologies in the long run. The innovative and patented light field sensor technology of K|Lens is to be further developed and tested for this purpose in order to obtain a handy, low-cost and fully video-capable 3D sensor that will enable contactless 100% inspection as well as significantly advancing the automation potential even in complex manufacturing processes or materials.

With this innovative idea, K|Lens successfully applied for the EIC Accelerator (formerly SME Instrument Phase 2) at the beginning of the year. K|Lens, originally a spin-off from Saarland University and the Max Planck Institute for Computer Science, is thus only the second Saarland company to win the competition for this highly remunerated EU business promotion scheme. The EIC Accelerator is aimed exclusively at small and medium-sized companies with an idea with high market potential and degree of innovation as well as European or international business activities and growth potential. This funding instrument is very selective and only the best applications have a chance of being funded.

Route2025 supported Matthias Schmitz, CEO and co-founder of K|Lens, in the application process and is pleased about this success together with the K|Lens team. Congratulations!
